We found dirty, used toilet paper beside the TV right when we walked in. There was just one tiny duvet for four people across two beds, barely enough for one person, and the Wi-Fi was unreliable. The shower door was broken and water wouldn’t drain. The man who was meant to let us in arrived late, and there’s no elevator, only stairs.

The owner was rude when I called several times because the intercom wasn’t working. He hadn’t given us a second key either, for reasons that had nothing to do with me. He apologized on the last day, but I still felt I’d paid too much for the service. Saving a few euros by not making another key, fixing the intercom, or sorting out the TV remote can end up being a real headache. The house itself is beautiful, spacious, centrally located, and stays cool with air conditioning. I turned it off at night because the older unit was very noisy.

The owner didn’t answer the phone and only brought one half-open roll of toilet paper. There was no coffee, the pots and pans were dirty, and of the two cribs we’d asked for, the one provided was broken. The house is in poor shape, with mold in the bedroom and a broken shower handle. The stairs are narrow and steep. It was also very noisy at night: two or three rooms below the windows played loud music until at least 2 a.m. Awful.

The owners are friendly and helpful, and the apartments are right in central Trieste, handy for exploring the city and nearby area. Each apartment has its own Wi-Fi, which helps avoid a weak connection. Ours was clean and had everything we needed, plus a hairdryer, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, and more.
