Staying here tonight. The location and price are great, the mattress is perfect, and everything is 100% clean.

We tried every way we could to sort out payment, first by contacting the property ourselves and then by asking Booking.com to help. The card details were updated twice, they were correct, and there was enough available for the €126 charge. We even booked somewhere else afterward at a higher price, and that card was accepted straight away. There was no real effort from the property to reach us and resolve things. We'd reserved months ahead for the Gorillaz concert in Trieste in July, at €126 a night. The property could charge the card at its discretion. About a month later, Booking.com flagged a card problem. We checked the details and funds, then entered a different card when the same notice came again 20 days later. A third alert arrived a couple of days after that, so we called. The person who answered said they couldn't check because the accounts were closed that day. We tried calling again over the next few days and got no answer. Booking.com then contacted the property and offered immediate payment by bank transfer. Twelve hours after we asked the platform for help, our reservation was canceled. By then the same room was listed for more than twice our rate, in line with other places during that busy concert day. Booking.com tried to get an explanation; the operator said the response was extremely aggressive and the call ended abruptly. The platform later told us it considered the situation extremely suspicious, shared our concerns, and had taken action against the property. I'm giving two stars only because Booking.com eventually took action against them, which pleased me, and because the rating will be more visible. This was completely avoidable and showed no seriousness. We weren't going to be extorted, so we stayed elsewhere. I can already imagine the owner's reply full of excuses, but it can't erase what Booking.com did. This kind of crafty management doesn't work in a world of public reviews and booking platforms anymore. In response to the owner, who clearly missed my account: the card was updated twice, and both sets of details were accurate with sufficient funds for €126. We tried to contact you directly and through Booking.com. You were evasive at first, then didn't respond to our calls or platform messages, while your response to their operator was hostile enough that he filed a complaint. Both we and Booking.com tried every way to make payment possible, but you made no good-faith effort to contact us. I stand by everything above.

The owner was so kind and helpful, even recommending places to eat and drink, including in Ljubljana. Our booking agency had made an error, but the owner handled it quickly and very professionally, doing the best they could to fix it. The rooms were clean, neat and comfortable, and they're in a handy spot about 15-20 minutes from each of the tourist sights.

The people managing the place were lovely and quick to help, and the daily cleaning and fresh towels were much appreciated. It's a great base for a Trieste visit too, with the city center only a short walk away.
