Le Roccette Mare Beach Hotel & Restaurant

The cottages sit in pleasant, well-kept grounds, and the view looking up toward the old town is almost unreal. Le Roccette Mare is right on Tropea’s main beach, with a very good restaurant above the sand serving local food. The staff were attentive and excellent. The rooms are basic, though they have what you need, and getting to town means tackling lots of steep stairs. There’s a taxi shuttle, but it isn’t cheap. Still, we’re already looking forward to coming back.

We had a really good 11-day holiday at Le Roccette Mare at the end of June. We’d reserved a hotel room but were given an apartment instead, and it looked great, seemed recently renovated, and had everything we needed. The reception staff were very friendly and could help in English. Half board worked well, and we also ate at the beach restaurant, where we watched the sun set over the sea. The private beach was amazing, with an umbrella and beach chairs included. The one thing that could improve is WiFi: we could connect at reception, but none of the networks worked in apartment number 7. Thanks for a great holiday, we’d recommend it.

We came home more tired than when we left, despite the lovely food and beautiful sea. The included meals were amazing, and the little restaurant right on the beach was a lovely place in the morning or evening. The beach was nice too, and the sea was incredible, with no huge waves. The hotel, though, was a nightmare. The room was underground, small, and damp feeling, with a tiny bathroom, old furniture, and an uncomfortable bed. Photos of the upstairs rooms don’t show how different the downstairs ones are, and most visitor photos seem to be of the town. A door was all that separated our room from an older couple’s, so we could hear them fart, snore, sneeze, or just talk. There was no AC, so we didn’t sleep. Italians are loud in general, and the hotel was noisy from around 7am until about 2am. If you’re considering a trip there, maybe look at another hotel.

It’s all about the location. The sand and beach are amazing, while the rest is average. There’s no parking inside the hotel, but you can use the street or the parking “caves” right across from it.
