Olangerhof

Everyone on the staff was kind and attentive, checking in often to make sure we had what we needed. That personal welcome made a big difference. We also loved the heated pool and restaurant, and the facilities throughout are high quality. Hotel Olangerhof in Kronplatz has a beautiful mountain chalet feel and an excellent ski-in/ski-out location. Getting there can be difficult, especially without a car, so a shuttle to the nearby town once or twice daily would help. It’s a fantastic mountain hotel, and we’d gladly come back.

We chose this hotel for my proposal in the Dolomites, and the staff did so much to make our stay memorable. Irene helped with my questions before we arrived and made everything feel easy. The food was outstanding, made with high-quality ingredients and suited to our diets. It’s one of the best hotels we’ve stayed in, with the best service we’ve experienced.

The mountain views from the hotel are beautiful, and its 1800 m altitude gives it a commanding position over the valley. But getting there from Valdaora is a serious drawback. It feels isolated, so we had to drive constantly, including 5 km on a difficult, dangerous road that seemed especially risky in heavy winter conditions. The small pool also has a great view, but the water wasn’t warm enough to enjoy it properly or relax. The food was mediocre, and we’d expected more traditional regional cooking. Over six nights, I only really enjoyed dinner once. Breakfast was disappointing too, with few choices and no fresh fruit. When we asked the head waiter, Angelo, whether we could get some for our kids, he gave a cold “NO” and said, “We have only what you see on table!” His negative attitude spoiled things from our first morning. He acted as if he owned “his hotel” and got upset when we asked to move from a table by the door to one near the windows. We spoke to his manager, Silvia, but she said she couldn’t help and that we had to speak with Angelo. I asked whether they understood they worked in hospitality. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel if you don’t want to pay to be seated wherever Angelo decides, then spoken to rudely and ordered around with a dictatorial “sit down where your nr room is pointed” attitude. The hotel sits high on a mountain, over 1200m up, with spectacular views. We loved the pool and spa, and the food and drinks were marvelous. Get half board if you can, the dinners were delicious, the service impeccable, and the wine list was great. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. I highly recommend it, and you can disregard the negative reviews.
