Residence Sonnwies

The ski bus stop was meant to be 100 meters away, but it was actually almost 300-400 meters uphill, which was inconvenient. The apartment itself was very nice, clean, and just the right size for two, and everything else was excellent. A few things listed in the apartment description were missing at first: a phone, dish soap, soap, and Wi-Fi. They brought them very quickly, but I wish they'd already been there.

We spent January 4th to January 11th, 2025 at Residence Sonnwies, two adults with our boys aged 9 and 11, and we've already requested an apartment for early 2026. The Reden family, who own it, welcomed us at the reception of the associated Markushof hotel in the same village and showed us to the apartment. The underground parking was a real help on cold ski nights, and the ski cellar is handy if you use it. We left our equipment at the depot by the Olang valley station. In the morning it was an easy five-minute walk to the "Brücke" bus stop, then just a few minutes by bus to the valley station. The apartment had everything we needed. The kitchen is small but fine for making a few evening snacks, and there were so many cupboards and storage spaces we couldn't use them all. The boys slept well on the pull-out sofa bed in the living room after tiring themselves out skiing. When the kettle leaked, we sent Markushof a quick email and the problem was sorted the next day. We got useful suggestions when we asked where to eat. We really recommend "Panorama", about a twenty-minute walk away, but be sure to book. The Wi-Fi in our room wasn't great, perhaps because lots of guests were using it that evening. It could be improved, though we didn't mind much and enjoyed playing the board games we'd brought with the kids. We found the waste sorting rules a bit odd and unsettling. We're used to separating rubbish in Germany, but some of the South Tyrol "guidelines" left us puzzled. Nothing serious, though, and you adapt and take it easy.

We had a lovely week in the apartment during the start of autumn. It was tastefully furnished, practical, and had all the amenities we needed. The complex is very well maintained, and staying at the residence also gives you access to the spa and services at Markushof Hotel, which is under the same management. The managers were friendly, kind, and helpful. A great place.

The owner personally walked us over to Residence Sonnwies after our warm welcome at the Hotel Markushof reception, where they explained everything and handed over the apartment key. They went through all the details very kindly and thoroughly. We liked the apartment so much that we booked it again for 2025 straight away.
