Itaca

I just got back from the weekend, and the staff were friendly. The woman was very artistic. Some of the reviews seemed unfounded to me, though the Google photo isn't quite accurate. It shows the beautiful house during renovations. The so-called chicken coop isn't actually there, it's a neighbor's chickens, some distance from the house. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the sea.

We found this at the last minute on Booking for €100 for the night of August 15th. The price seemed cheap compared with other places, but unfortunately the reason became clear quickly. A very kind woman showed us to tiny room number 3, with barely enough space for a queen-size bed and a locker. They asked for payment on arrival, cash only, and gave no receipt. The room and main bathroom were fairly clean. The second bathroom, shared with the other rooms, was extremely cramped, with a shower, toilet, and tiny sink, so we hardly used it. The area was isolated, which wasn't an issue by itself, but it was an unhealthy-looking place, as the photo shows, with trash scattered on the ground. Construction was underway, and boxes had been left on the steps leading to the rooms. All in all, I wouldn't return.

The place is far out and full of mosquitoes, and the condition of it was awful. There was rubbish everywhere, a filthy space, and a chicken coop that stank. We should have taken the low price as a warning, but my friend went ahead and booked. We also couldn't get a receipt for what we paid, which made it seem like the couple preferred doing things off the books. I have to wonder whether it's legal to rent somewhere out in that state.

Once we got there, it was a really pleasant stay, even with the children. Finding the place was tricky, so thank goodness for GPS. The staff were very helpful, taking us to the beach despite the 15-minute walk and suggesting places to eat.
