The location is beautiful, and the owner or manager did communicate with us. Still, this place could be much better with some effort. It’s quite a way from town and the nearest grocery store, something people traveling without a car should be told up front. The Varenna shop is a long way off and has limited, pricey supplies. We also found the internet had been out since around 11 the night before. Usually we’d be out exploring, but it was our rest day and my teenagers were like junkies without their fix, so I’m posting this on my digital SIM. There’s no washer either, which is a big problem for us in such a remote spot. We’d hoped to do laundry and now have to wash everything by hand in the sink. The dated kitchen didn’t bother us, though some people mention it. The owner tends to reply to reviews with snarky comments, and maybe he could learn from some top hosts about working in the service industry.

The balcony view is unmatched, the rooms were clean, and that gets this place one star from me. The decor took me straight back to my childhood, and at 46 that’s not a good thing. There are pictures of creatures from the film "it" in the hall, and cutlery from the 70s for nostalgic tourists. WiFi comes and goes, just like the warm water, and the television doesn’t work. The garage won’t close or lock. Electricity seems new here: boil a kettle and use a toaster at the same time and you’re off the grid. And one of the balcony chairs has only three legs. Seriously?

Be careful with this place. We booked through Booking, got confirmation, and the money was taken from our account. About half an hour later, the owner wrote to say it was a mistake and we should cancel. We tried to explain by phone, but he wouldn’t speak English and just hung up. He made no effort to explain or even talk it through. This place has no respect for customers.

The pitches have lots of space between them, and the sunsets are to die for. It’s a great site, well organized, with good facilities. Swimming is easy, and the water is clean and clear. The best bar is just around the headland, the Latino Beach Bar.

The apartment is spotless and comes loaded with appliances, and the host is really helpful and responsive. The lake view is amazing. It’s 3 km from Varrena, where you can catch the ferry to the other villages.
