Villa Monti

The staff were a real help. MG arranged a taxi from the train station for our family, gave us a useful tour of the city with suggestions, and helped get our bags up the 99 steps to the suite. The station is about a 20-minute walk away if you go on foot. We stayed a few days in Suite Primrose at Villa Monti, two adults and three kids. The villa is just south of Varenna’s main square, about a five-minute walk downhill, so everything is close. The rooms were well equipped and ventilated nicely at night. Having a washing machine was handy too, since we could leave laundry to dry while we were out. A beautiful place in a beautiful setting, with great people and atmosphere. 10/10.

A long overdue review. We spent a week in the tulip suite in August 2025, and it’s still one of my favourite places I’ve stayed. The terrace and views were stunning, and I loved having afternoon drinks by the pool. Wonderful hosts, too. We couldn’t have asked for more.

The views and location at Villa Monti are incredible, and the place is clean, convenient, and well run. Christian at reception was incredibly helpful with recommendations. When we got lost on a mountain hike, he even came to find us. Such a lovely stay, and I can’t wait to come back. 10/10.

Primrose worked really well for our family of four. The adults had a separate bedroom, the kids had their own space, and there was a living and dining room where we could relax and eat. Thanks to Christian and MG for a wonderful stay. The villa is a few hundred yards from Varenna proper, which was a relief when town got busy. We enjoyed the little pool deck for swimming and sunbathing, and ate dinner there twice. I think the view over Lake Como is the best for dinner. For groceries and drinks, I’d go to Imperal in Mandello del Lario, about 15 minutes south. The shops in Varenna have limited selection and are pretty expensive.
