Hotel Al Gazzettino

The breakfast was great, and the front desk staff were especially kind and accommodating. Finding the place was a little tricky, and it would be nice if they provided things like dental kits and slippers. Still, we had a pleasant stay.

We paid €1,100 for three nights after Booking.com showed what looked like a special price reduced from €3,300. Now it feels like a lure offer. Other four-star hotels in the same area were €1,000-€1,300 without a discount, so the price comparison made no sense. We couldn’t cancel, though we would have. €800 for three days would have felt fair, but not €1,100, and certainly not €3,300. The breakfast was plentiful but poor quality. The croissants, muffins, and rolls tasted like the cheapest supermarket products, and I couldn’t eat them. The room itself was very nice, with a canal view, but the photo had shown a balcony and there wasn’t one. On the second day housekeeping left just one large shower towel for two of us. The two-in-one shampoo and shower gel came as only two sample-size mini bottles, one for hair and one for the body, which wasn’t enough. We had to buy more at the supermarket, especially shampoo. For a three-star hotel, it was too expensive. Reception was open from 8 am to 6 pm, with no staff at the hotel after 6, which felt odd.

The view from our room was amazing, and the staff member at reception was friendly and really helpful. The place was very clean and close to everything we wanted to see. Thanks as well for the warning about the national strike.

I booked two rooms at Al Gazzettino for one night and left extremely disappointed. The way the staff treated us was rude and unprofessional, and we felt unwelcome. The main problem was breakfast. While booking, I had selected filters for pets allowed and breakfast included, so we went downstairs in the morning expecting to eat. First we were told breakfast was included for just one room, then we were told it was included for neither. I was confused and wanted an explanation. I wouldn’t have minded paying if someone had explained things properly, but one woman on staff made a scene and shouted at us in front of other people. She refused to give her name and was no help at all. She told us we weren’t the police and didn’t need to know her name. She was working without a badge showing her position. She mocked us and was extremely arrogant, even saying the money we’d paid for the room was nothing. She said she didn’t care about customer reviews and that we could write whatever we wanted. Then she left us at reception, went to the kitchen, and shouted while using bad words. I was shocked by the disrespect shown to us as paying guests. That behavior ruined the stay and left a lasting bad impression. I can’t recommend this hotel to other tourists, and I want other travelers to know about the treatment we received when choosing where to stay in Venice.
