Antica Casa Carettoni

The location worked well for me, close to the train station and waterbus stops. My room faced the back garden, and I actually liked that the hotel wasn't on the canal. Boat noise all night would've been a lot. The room was compact, but fine for skinny me, with a comfy bed and pillows. The green bed cover and decor looked just like the photos. A little dated, though it suited the Venice vibe, and I think the glass chandelier is from Murano. I got a good deal on a single room with a shared bathroom. The guy who checked me in was friendly and really helpful, even finding me a kettle, and the other staff were nice too. A few hooks, maybe stuck behind the door, would be useful. I could hear some noise from the room above, but that's not the hotel's fault, just some uncivilised baboons 🤷🏻

The bathroom made getting ready a hassle. There was nowhere to set toiletries, so I kept going back and forth to the bedroom. The toilet was so close to the shower that I had to sit sideways, and even at 5ft 2in I could barely move in the shower. The holder for the shower head was broken, so I had to hold it, and if I dropped shower gel I'd have to step out to pick it up. Not relaxing after long, hot days of walking. I also saw a hole inside the bathroom door, which I can only assume came from someone being frustrated by how cramped it was. The room itself was an okay size, but not big enough for two suitcases, and a wall light was broken. The decor looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1970's. Breakfast wasn't worth getting up for, I'd find a nice cafe instead.

Hotel Atlantide guests need to come here to check in. The staff were helpful and went over what I needed to know for my stay.

The air-conditioning was the best we've had in Italy, and the Wi-Fi and breakfast were both great extras. Getting to the train is easy, with no bridges to haul your luggage over. We'd stay here again on another Venice trip.
