BEDBUGS I checked in, got a map, and was sent to another run-down building around the corner. The room looked like it had never been cleaned properly: blood smears on the walls from previous guests crushing bedbugs, dust everywhere, and general filth. I checked carefully for live bugs and didn’t find any, or so I thought. After a day out, I showered and found two bedbugs crawling across my pillow. I caught them and took them downstairs and around the corner to show the front desk. The staff handled it better than I expected. They told me to take all my things out of the room. Thankfully I hadn’t unpacked. After a short wait, they quietly gave me a key to a nearby hotel, which I gather had the same owner. The replacement room was about half the size of the one I paid for, with a tiny, damp, lumpy bed. It smelled of decades of smoke and mildew and felt like an insult to any paying customer. I left right away and luckily found a much better hotel, hotel Kette, not far away, with impeccable service and hygiene for about the same price. Stay there instead. If you’ve had a similar experience, try disputing the charges with your credit card company if, like me, your booking agent was no help. Nobody should have to stay in conditions like these, especially at 200 eur a night, whatever the location or season.

The wheelchair access we booked was not provided. We arrived around 22-30, had booked the DIANA HOTEL opposite, but were put in this hotel on the fourth floor, where the wheelchair couldn’t get into the room. It was difficult to get my partner inside, and the room had a bath, which is no use for a disabled person. At reception they told us to come down first thing in the morning and they’d try to sort something out. We went to the restaurant for food, but about five minutes after it arrived they told us to hurry because they were closing. We said we would finish eating and leave afterward. Later, when we asked for water, we were told they didn’t sell it after the bar closed, but we could drink from the bathroom tap. The next morning we changed rooms. We could just about get the wheelchair into the room, but it had to be left outside the bathroom because it wouldn’t fit through the doorway. There was a shower with no seat. They gave us a little plastic stool that was useless and dangerous for a disabled person. The emergency cord was two meters off the ground, so also useless in a fall. The bar had no barman, so I asked in the restaurant to be served. Nobody came for ten minutes. I went out for a smoke, came back and waited another five minutes, then someone finally arrived. It took him ten minutes to bring a Bailey's and a white wine, and after I paid he had the nerve to ask for a tip. Sorry mate, I only tip for good service. My partner broke a nail and reception didn’t even have a first aid kit. Out of seven reception staff, only one was at all good and courteous. The housekeeping staff were kind and helpful. This was the worst hotel I’ve ever been in. 2 out of 10, and that’s generous. Definitely not for disabled people.

The location was the only good thing. At reception, the man working there didn’t greet us and bluntly asked for our passports. When he saw I was from Greece, he made inappropriate jokes to my boyfriend about how much he loves Greek girls and how lucky he was. It felt unprofessional and made me very uncomfortable, as well as being disrespectful to my boyfriend. The room was disappointing: very dark, with yellow walls and small yellow lights, and no natural light. It was full of mosquitoes, and there was no bath despite the booking description. Breakfast was actually the worst part. There wasn’t any normal food, just flavored yogurt, jams, croissants, some cereal, and bread. Very poor for a 3 star hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it.

It’s about a 3 min walk to St. Marks. Our room was clean and comfortable, and there were lots of tables for breakfast, which was good. We had a power outage at checkout, but the staff handled it well. Our room was in an annex, so we used the side door to get to the street and back into the hotel. That was much quicker than finding our way through the building.

At 9 PM, after a few hours out in the city, my partner and I came back to find large bed bugs crawling over the bed. I reported it at the front desk and got a casual “oh, oops.” It gave me the impression this might be a problem in other rooms too. We were moved, but I checked the bed while the receptionist was there and found bugs again. By 10 PM we decided we couldn't risk taking them home, so we found another hotel. The closest available place was a 20-minute walk away and cost twice as much. We had booked this one because it looked like a cheap deal, but it turned into a real safety concern. When I came back the next day to discuss a refund, a very rude staff member said I would get one. But when I mentioned the extra costs caused by the hotel's negligence, he wouldn't discuss them unless I got a lawyer. I stayed calm and never threatened legal action. The response was shocking. Before leaving, other guests told me they'd also had bed bugs and couldn't find another hotel. Palazzo Veneziano – Venice Collection went out of their way to help restore our Venice trip, even though the incident wasn't their fault. I've never written a review before, but I feel I have to share this. This was the worst experience of my life. I strongly recommend booking somewhere else.
