Classy Venice

Such a lovely apartment in Venice!

We gave it two stars because the location was great. That was the only thing in its favor. Our first trip as a married couple was especially disappointing. We were covered in bites from bed bugs. The mattress sagged badly, and the broken mosquito net let in so many mosquitoes that we couldn’t air the room at night. The air conditioning wouldn’t run. We found online that its condensate needed emptying, which we obviously weren’t going to do ourselves. So we had to choose between a closed window in temperatures above 26 degrees Celsius (79 degrees Fahrenheit) or an open one that let the mosquitoes in. The cleaning was poor, too. After the room had supposedly been freshly cleaned, we found the previous guests’ hair on our socks, broken hair clips and splinters beside the bed, and dust in the corners. The linens and towels had been washed, but they were still stained.

The apartment had everything we needed, or at least I couldn’t think of anything missing. We stayed three days, and I loved the decor and all the practical things: kitchenware, linens, iron and ironing board, microwave, fridge, TV, Wi-Fi, and even a diffuser attachment for the hairdryer. This is exactly the kind of holiday apartment you can settle into, and I’d definitely recommend it. I’d give it a 9.5 out of 10! Just two small drawbacks: there’s no bath mat, and it’s on the third floor with no elevator.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the apartment was lovely. It’s also close to the station.
