Colombina Hotel

The breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious, and we were more than satisfied with it. The hotel itself is beautiful and well maintained, with excellent staff. It doesn’t feel like a cookie-cutter place, and no detail seemed to be missing. For the price, the whole experience was great value for a Venice visit. I’m so glad I chose it.

We found a small canal jetty where you can sit and watch the world go by, and the breakfast was wonderful with great service. San Marco is only three minutes away on foot, and Florian is worth a visit too. The hotel has charming, very traditional Italian decor. We also liked the local pasta in a box, good value for eating on the go. For a first trip to Venice, this was perfect. Arriving by river taxi makes it an extra special treat, trust me, you won’t want to leave. If you’re staying more than a couple of days, the 72-hour river boat pass is a great way to hop between the local islands. It cost 49 euro each.

The first night was fine, but on the second there was a horrific smell, like a sewer line had broken. I told the desk, and they sent someone up to spray, but it didn’t help. I spent the night sleeping in the breakfast area. In the morning I explained what had happened and said I should get a refund for that awful last night. The man at the desk ignored me completely. Management later emailed only, “Sorry.” Everything else in Italy went well, except this hotel stay.

For the price, the room size, amenities, and location were incredible. Everyone on staff gave us wonderful service, especially the front desk guys, who helped arrange our airport transfer. Thank you!
