Hotel Diana

The location is excellent, and they did housekeeping every day. Our twin room had a decent-sized bedroom and bathroom. I didn't see any bedbugs, despite what many people have posted here. Since the building dates to the 15th century, I wouldn't expect it to be on a par with hotels built in the 19th century.

The place is central and breakfast is included, but it's extremely basic: yogurt, cereal, cheap low-quality ham and cheese, bread, mini croissants, jam, nocciola, and butter. The room was dirty. A hairclip left by a previous guest stayed on the carpet for all seven days of my visit, and the cleaning staff never picked it up. Worse, small bugs that looked like roaches came out of the toilet at night. I found them twice crawling beside my bed, and they were on the bed too. I reported it at reception and nothing was done. My booking couldn't be refunded, so I had to put up with it. They were small, but completely disgusting. The fridge didn't work, the bathroom door was cracked and broken, and the shower had black mold all over it. The room's hygiene and upkeep were nowhere near acceptable.

The one thing going for this place is its location near St. Mark’s Square. There are plenty of hotels around the square that would be a better choice, though. I absolutely wouldn't recommend this one. It was a total waste of money. The room was dirty, with shoe marks left on the carpet, and the bathroom door wouldn't close. The shower was broken, so I had to hold it the whole time. Breakfast was awful and very limited, served only from 8 to 10 at the Panada Hotel across the street, which was much too late for us. There was no luggage room either, so if you arrive before your room is ready, you have to wait at the Panada Hotel. For a place calling itself a three-star hotel, towels seem to be the only thing it had going for it. There were no facilities, not even what I'd expect from a basic hotel. There wasn't a phone in our room, and nowhere did it say room service was available, though a long list of things not to do was left on the table. When I asked the receptionist across the street for hot water, they said it was my problem and I should have brought a thermos. They could have just told me I could order tea through room service. That would've been much easier and a lot more polite. The receptionist was extremely rude and unhelpful, and actually worked at the hotel across the street.

The room was very clean, despite what some other reviews said, and the staff were great. The air conditioning worked well too. The building smelled pungent throughout, including the breakfast area, lobby, and room. The hotel is very old, the bathroom was cramped, and the beds and pillows were incredibly uncomfortable. You get what you pay for.
