Rio Hotel

The annex room is behind the main reception, down an alley and behind some restaurants. It's very small, so I wouldn't choose it for more than 2 nights. There's no lift, which may be an issue with a big case or mobility problems. The bathroom is fairly dated, but everything worked. The location is excellent, close to all the main Venice sights, and the receptionist who checked us in was very friendly.

The location couldn't be better, and breakfast was a bit above the usual Italian standard. Our first room had poor air conditioning, but the nice guy at reception moved us to another room where the AC worked fine. The staff were very helpful.

For the price and location, our room was more than adequate, and the bed was comfortable. Everything was clean and smelled great. Jeffery at the front desk was great too. It's an older Venice hotel, but it's being well kept.

The manager confirmed that we could check in early because our flight arrived in the early hours after a late flight. Before we flew, we tried several times to confirm this a third time while reception should still have been open, but nobody replied. When we got to the hotel, there was no receptionist in the lobby and no cameras for safety. The manager had said we could self check in, yet we got no reply when we arrived. We feel badly let down and feel our money was taken even though they knew we couldn't check in earlier. The next morning we asked to speak to the manager, and of course he was “busy”. Customer service was an absolute joke.
