Locanda Al Leon

The location is hard to beat, and this place felt like a hidden gem. I stayed a few years back and had no complaints. My room was small, but had what I needed, everything was clean and tidy, and breakfast was incredible.

Quiet, clean, and in a really good spot, with lots of little shops and restaurants nearby. Lovely hotel. I'd happily come back.

The staff were so kind and made sure they were available when I arrived. I loved the Venetian feel I was hoping for, and even though it’s an older hotel, it was spotless. The location felt fantastic and very safe, and the price was great for what you get. I couldn’t have been happier and will definitely stay here again.

We booked a twin room so I could bring my mother to Venice, but getting into the hotel was a nightmare. We arrived by water bus at 10:45 p.m. to find a locked door and an empty lobby. A sign told late arrivals to call a number, but it played a message saying it was out of service. For two hours we kept trying, and even got staff at a nearby restaurant to call from their Italian phones. We also contacted the UK agency we booked through, but they couldn’t reach the hotel either. By then it was after midnight, nobody answered our knocking, and we couldn’t get to our room. Thankfully, a waiter at the nearby restaurant helped us find another place for the night. When we came back to Locanda Al Leon the next morning and explained what had happened, the staff were extremely rude. They insisted the number had worked, despite our call history and the restaurant and agency also failing to reach them. Then they showed us a double room, not the twin we had booked. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Be careful and consider staying somewhere else, there are plenty of good nearby hotels with evening lobby staff.
