The people were nice, the location was good, and breakfast was very good. Still, I wouldn't rate it as a four-star hotel. The room finishes felt pretty average, and ours was the smallest room we had on our four-stop trip around Italy. We also asked about having one small load of laundry done. They said it was possible, but couldn't or wouldn't tell us the price. At checkout we learned it was 107 euros. That's embarrassing.

The stairs are no joke, around 80 of them, so this may not suit you if walking or climbing stairs is difficult. Finding the entrance can be tricky too: head down the unassuming alley from the front of ‘Hotel Ala’ and look to the right. Once inside, we loved the clean, lovely rooms, with well-stocked bathrooms, a huge bath, plenty of towels and robes, and firm but comfortable beds. The upstairs dining area has an amazing view. Breakfast was even better, and it's included in the room rate: eggs, sausages, toast, pastries, cakes, biscuits, meat, yogurt, fruit and vegetables, pancakes, tea, coffee, and fresh juice. We ate enough that we didn't need lunch. Highly recommend!

We'd love to stay here again. Breakfast was terrific, especially the homemade-style grilled vegetables, and our room had a lovely view of St.Mazore Church, galleries, and the Venezia canal. The staff were friendly and carried all our luggage up to the third floor, which was appreciated since there's no elevator. The location is right by the St.Giglio ferry station, about a minute's walk away. Take line no.1 to reach places like Rialto bridge, Academia gallery, St.Marco piazza, and Biennale.

It's a charming little place tucked among Venice's narrow streets. Make sure you know how to find it before setting out, especially with bags. We hadn't realized there was a taxi stop right by the hotel, so do your research.

I never got to stay at the hotel, but they aren't refunding people who cancel their vacations, even during the worldwide pandemic. I think it's horrific that they're taking advantage of people like that.
