Our room at Luxury Venetian Rooms was called “Canal View,” though the view of the canal was only partial. It was clean and comfortable, and check-in was easy with a friendly staff member. Breakfast arrived the next day, brought by another staff member. You can choose what you want through a webpage the day before, before the cutoff time, which they clearly explain at check-in. Everything we tried was fresh and tasty. There’s no dedicated staff onsite, but the service was pleasant and efficient. A convenient, cozy place to stay in Venice.

We only stayed one night because we thought that would be enough to get a feel for Venice. In hindsight, I’d have preferred to book on the mainland and make a day trip in. I wouldn’t recommend this place or return, unless you choose one of the best options in Venice. Getting to the room is a bit of a process. The coded front door scrapes along the ground and only opens about a third of the way, which could make getting in and out difficult. Then it’s roughly 75 feet to an outdoor lobby, followed by a small flight of stairs and a larger one. There’s another coded door before you step up to the room area. The room doors can be locked from either side. A girl will likely give you information about the space and ask for the tourist tax upfront, currently €2 per person per night. Be cautious if anyone asks for more money, as scams are common in Venice, with people posing as others to mislead and steal. There’s even a poster in the room acknowledging this. The room itself is basic: a lockable wardrobe, an underwhelming bed with flat pillows, a small TV, a round dining table, and a window looking toward the opposite building, with a canal between. The bathroom is typical. Our shower failed to drain a couple of times during the day. I think it may be due to the building’s unusual drainage system, and possibly to Venice not having a unified sewage system like a city. It eventually drained, and we could hear the whole building’s drainage when it did. Fortunately, no other fixtures had these intermittent problems. It’s somewhere to sleep, shower, and have a bit of your own space. Still, I’d pick the best place in Venice or stay inland and travel in.

The location was ideal, close to the main attractions, and we were very happy with our stay at Luxury Venetian Rooms. Our room was clean, had a nice view from the window, and the service was friendly and excellent. My only small concern was that a staff member photographed our ID cards. I understand it was for check-in, but these are important documents, and there are other ways to check guests in. The hotel we stayed at in Milan before this one didn’t photograph our IDs.

Our “courtyard” or “garden” view room felt a long way from luxury, and the price was excessive for the condition of the furniture and what was shown on the homepage. There’s no reception. We were told our luggage could be left safely in the courtyard, but there was nobody to keep an eye on it. When we returned in the afternoon, the courtyard door was open, so anyone could have come in from the street and taken the bags. The room’s amenities weren’t even at a three-star level, and breakfast wasn’t impressive. We were disappointed, though perhaps the canal-view rooms are better.

We loved waking up to the canal, gondolas, a pretty bridge, and a church tower right outside our windows. The room had comfortable beds and lovely vintage furniture, and breakfast was tasty too. It was also close to St Mark's Basillica and Doge's palace. Only thing missing was an elevator.
