Residenza Rivo Alto

We liked being able to shut the shutters and get the room properly dark and quiet at night. The air conditioning was great for me as someone who sleeps hot, and the location is in a nice part of Venice with plenty of good food nearby. It was quieter than other places we've stayed. I was concerned after reading the earlier reviews, but it seems they've made a genuine effort to address what people mentioned, including signage, maintenance, and air conditioning. I appreciate how much work it must take to look after a property in Venice, and I think Rivoalto will keep improving over the years.

The location is the only decent thing about this guesthouse. For what we paid, it felt like a massive scam. Our room was cramped, dirty, and visibly neglected. The carpet was stained enough that my mother and I wore the shoes provided in the room rather than walk on it. The bathroom was rusty and old: the toilet flush kept coming off the wall, the shower had very little pressure, and the soap holder was unclean. The walls were rough and marked with mosquitoes that previous guests had squashed. The so-called hot beverage corner was a dirty kettle with one bag of breakfast tea, and the fridge in the room didn't work. Really sad. I can't recommend it.

The canal view from our self-contained room was lovely, and the room was serviced each day. There was a kettle, fridge, mugs and glasses, plus a four-poster bed that added a quaint touch. The bathroom was good, with plenty of hot water and a shower. Check-in took a little while, but went smoothly after that. The location worked well, though finding the front door could be tricky, especially after a couple of aperol sprtizes. Keep the windows shut, there are mosquitoes outside!

The location is good, but the room was very expensive for what you get. Dust was everywhere, so don't look under the bed. It looked like the place was under renovation, but apparently wasn't. The queen bed was really two twin mattresses pushed together, and basic things like soap were missing. The manager insisted there was no Wi-Fi problem even though we could only get one or two bars.
