Scalon del Doge

We were in Venice for a long weekend with our two children, and my daughter picked this little gem in the city center. Everything worked out well for us. Alessandra was exceptionally kind and helpful. She gave us a map and wrote down useful information, including suggestions for where to find things and how to get there. You can reach everything on foot, and you can see the Rialto Bridge from the private pier. The room was beautifully decorated and comfortable, so we loved spending time in it. Breakfast was plentiful and fantastic. We chose what we wanted the day before, which meant it was always fresh. The price matched the experience very well. I’d recommend it for a short or longer stay, as a couple or with family. We’ll definitely return to this lovely little hotel in the near future.

Alessandra made our two nights at Scalon del Doge fantastic. She was flexible with check-in when our train schedule changed, and breakfast was adapted to our requests while still reflecting local culture. The B&B is beautifully decorated in traditional Venetian style. It’s peaceful, yet right in the heart of Venice and very close to the Rialto Bridge. Alessandra knows the city inside out and readily shared its history and hidden spots, drawing on her knowledge of art and architecture. She also moved easily between languages. I could speak slowly in Italian, and she clarified things in English. She speaks French well too.

A highlight of our visit to Verona was Alessandra’s “secret Venice” walking tour. It was a quiet, personal outing with plenty of time for questions and a fascinating conversation about Venetian history and culture. We also took a private water taxi from the hotel’s dock straight to the airport. It was quick and really fun. Scalon del Doge is a beautiful historic small hotel on the Grand Canal near ponte Rialto. The owner gave us clear directions to this tucked-away place. We didn’t mind walking from the Rialto water bus stop or climbing the old stairs. The hotel was stunning and very clean. We could leave our bags early, and were welcomed with a drink and treats. Our room was elegant, comfortable, and spotless. The windows looked onto a small canal, where we could hear gondoliers singing; with the windows closed, it was quiet. Breakfast was a feast, chosen to our liking, with excellent cappuccino, served by a lovely staff member. The owner and staff were welcoming and spoke several languages. We enjoyed the historic setting and the break from a box hotel. The whole experience was amazing, and we highly recommend it.

We especially loved the Grand Canal location and our room at Scalon del Doge. After a long flight, we were able to check in early, and the front desk person was so kind. The Venetian tour with Alessandra was the best part. She spoke passionately and professionally about the city’s history and art. We have nothing but good things to say about our stay, and I highly recommend both the hotel and the tour. Well done!
