Venice Agostino Guesthouse

After staying here, I came away feeling the owner runs the place for his own convenience and profit, with little sense of looking after guests. They apparently run several houses like this, and the business feels focused on money. There was a strange smell in my room that stayed even after I aired it out for hours. The shower was disgusting: it was badly clogged, water pooled while I was using it, and there were visible yellow marks under the mat. There was only one bathroom for five people, so guests were competing to use it at 7am. The rest of the apartment was shared, and the repeated sound of people opening, closing, and locking their individual doors was hard to ignore. Someone came back at 1:40am and woke me even through earplugs, after I’d already fallen into a deep sleep. There was no bin in the room, only small ones in the corridor by the entrance. Even before check-in, communication was a problem. The listing on booking.com said check-in was only available until 18, a rule I’d never come across elsewhere in Italy. I called the number they provided, and the person who sounded like a manager spoke neither Italian nor English well and was rude. I had to repeat my surname over and over while he checked the reservation, and he struggled to understand my English. From that call, I suspected the property might be run by another non-EU owner. Whoever runs a B&B should learn basic manners and customer care first.
