This is easily the worst apartment I've booked through Booking.com, and the worst owner I've dealt with. I'd tell anyone considering this place to think twice and spend a bit more for a decent apartment. I'm giving it one star because I can't give it less. The owner entered without our permission or warning to tell us to switch off the air conditioning while we'd gone for an afternoon walk. The apartment was unbearably hot, and I'm extremely sensitive to cold. The owner was incredibly cheap about it, even putting tape over the remote so the temperature couldn't be changed, apparently to stop a paying guest from lowering it and using more air conditioning. The unit was ancient and didn't cool the place at all, so in Venice's summer heat the apartment was like an oven. It was disgustingly dirty, with grime and mold everywhere, and a repulsive smell of dust and an old house. It was obvious no maintenance had been done. The toilet wouldn't flush, the shower screen was covered in what looked like its own ecosystem, as if the owner didn't know what bleach was, and the hairdryer looked like it came from the 1920s. The extractor fan was clogged with toilet paper (?) and the ceiling had damp patches. The chairs were dusty, stained, and dirty, like they'd been taken from an abandoned castle. The living room mattress deserves its own mention. You could feel every spring digging into your ribs while trying to sleep, if you could sleep at all.
