The rooms each have their own theme. I was in the "bike"room, with an actual Guzzi Bike inside and lots of garage-style items. It’s a cool place, and I’d happily come back. The bed was really comfortable, there was a small desk for a laptop, and the bathroom was huge with a lovely shower. The shower is raised, though, with a big tiled step down to the floor, so watch your footing. Slippers aren’t provided, so bring your own. The soap, shower gel, and shampoo smelled lovely. My room and bathroom were very clean when I arrived. I stayed two nights, and they didn’t clean the room during that time. I was fine with that, though some people may expect daily cleaning. Toiletries, a shower cup, and toothbrushes were available in the hall. There’s also a well-organised shared kitchen for preparing or storing food, plus a kettle and tea and coffee in the room. The ceramic cups are lovely. Bottles and cups are provided by a water dispenser in the hall. Breakfast isn’t included, but they have an arrangement with a nearby bar. It’s especially handy if you need to be near the university, and the city centre is about a 20-minute walk away. Part of the street is closed for construction at the moment. People who live in Verona told me the area isn’t especially safe to walk in alone, though I assume it’s the same everywhere these days. The reception isn’t open around the clock, so arrange check-in ahead of time. The staff were very accommodating: they sent instructions a few days before I arrived, then checked in with me the next day to see if everything was okay. There’s no wardrobe, just a clothes hanger, which suited me since I’m not a wardrobe fan. One of the sockets beside the bed only has one outlet, so you have to pick between the bedside lamp and your charger, but there are other sockets in the room.

Nicki was the best part of our four-night stay at Casa Babbuino. She was always available for questions and gave us useful tips and advice, which helped make our time in Verona as good as it could be. The rooms were spotless and quirky, the cooking facilities were great, and the back garden was a lovely place to relax or eat outside. We’ve just got back, and my one-word verdict is FANTASTIC. If you’re unsure about booking Casa Babbuino, I’d say go for it. You won’t regret it! *****

We only had one night at Casa Babbuino, and we were sad to leave so soon. We’d definitely come back on another Verona trip, hopefully for longer. They were really flexible about check-in and check-out, and let us into the room early after our 4 am start. They also kindly kept our bags safe after checkout so we could go exploring without carrying them around. Our Surf Room was spacious, with a lovely large bathroom and shower, such a welcome change from tiny hotel bathrooms. The little garden was charming, too, and we only wished we’d had more time to enjoy it. A real gem of a hotel in Veronetta.

We were lucky to spend the hottest part of the heat wave in a lovely room with central air conditioning, then go to a very special late-night event at the coliseum. We also happened to be there during an organ music festival, so it’s worth checking what cultural events are on during your visit. The old town can feel like a tourist zoo, for good and silly reasons, though there are charming back streets where you can get away from it. Forget the R&J balcony... Everything was great, and I highly recommend the place. Just keep in mind it isn’t a classic B&B: there’s no breakfast on site, but a nearby café offers a discounted breakfast.

I was there in mid July, and from the start the impressions were good. The self check-in was easy, even though I arrived at night, and communication was quick and friendly. The lobby was tastefully done, and the garden was gorgeous. The entrance can be easy to miss: there’s a lovely green door, but no big name sign. Once inside, my room was really spacious, with classy, new furniture and a large bathroom. It’s a straightforward 10-15 minute walk from the hotel to the start of the old town. There’s a supermarket about 200 m away and a few restaurants around the corner, while the area itself is very quiet. A public parking lot about 5 minutes or 350m away costs 5,- a day, and there were always plenty of spaces. It might also be possible to park for free on the streets nearby, but I’m not completely sure. With parking this easy, it’s a good base for visiting places around Verona, including Lake Garda, about a 30-minute drive away. Thanks for the nice visit, and especially for the gin tonic at the end. Greetings from Germany, Mario
