Giulietta e Romeo Hotel

We spent a week at this hotel and found it exceptional, with excellent staff and a clean, spacious room. For Valentine’s Day, they’d arranged a lovely bed of roses. The breakfast had the best variety we’ve had yet. The hotel is only minutes from the center and is a great base for day trips to Lake Garda and Venice. The train station is a 20-minute walk away, and a taxi from the airport cost 30-40 Euros. Reception recommended some very good restaurants, and the pizza next door was good too. Padua was disappointing, and the Arena was closed due to Olympics. I’d like to visit again during Opera season.

My husband and I stayed here for one night during a quick stop in Verona. The hotel had a perfect location, clean modern rooms, a nice breakfast buffet, and polite, helpful staff. Our room, 104, was tucked behind the lift and beside the stairs, where a janitor closet should be. Noise went on all night and kept us from sleeping. They really shouldn’t put guests in rooms there. The two twin beds weren’t pushed together or made up as one, which felt ironic for a husband and wife in a Romeo and Juliet themed hotel. They were uncomfortable too, though in the usual very firm European style, and the pillows weren’t comfortable either. I paid $342 for a Monday night. If I’d known the room would be this bad, I would at least have chosen somewhere cheaper.

The staff made our Verona weekend much easier. We got there at 10am and they kept our bags while we went out, then did the same on our last day so we could enjoy the city before our 9pm flight. The hotel was clean, with modern bedrooms, and the arena and other main sights were easy to reach on foot. The double room was much smaller than I’d expect, though. You can pay extra for a Superior room, but that felt like the size a standard double should be. The walls are thin too, so we could hear people in the neighbouring rooms.

We had a fantastic breakfast, and the staff were welcoming and very helpful throughout our stay. A small misunderstanding that had nothing to do with the hotel led to a kind upgrade to a suite, which was a lovely surprise. Everything else went smoothly too. I’d happily recommend the hotel.
