Hotel Arena

A little old-school hotel downtown, with clean rooms and friendly staff. The rates were very affordable, and I'd stay again. Parking is limited, so you may need to use the street behind the hotel. I had no trouble parking, and the area seemed very safe. I really loved Verona, such a charming city.

The reception felt deceiving, and the place was terrible. We got to the hotel around 19h and the room was unbearably hot. The heater couldn't be adjusted in the room, so we told reception there was a problem. They said they'd switch off the main control and told us to leave the window open. We did, but when we came back around 23h, it was still far too hot to stay in. They again said they'd turn off the main control, but nothing changed. Around 01h, we said we were leaving. They moved us to a bigger room, which was still hot, but the heat was more bearable because of the extra space. We opened the window to sleep. We wanted to rest, but couldn't, and felt deceived.

The reception guy was shouting on the phone in another language while checking us in, and we could still hear him from our room on the 3rd floor. The place is really old and not clean, and the staff were very noisy in the morning. We couldn't use the elevator with our luggage because it was blocked off as a service lift with linens. At around 02.30 am, someone started fighting in the corridors. It went on for at least 15 minutes, with banging doors and shouting. We woke up scared, thinking something serious was happening. When we mentioned it at checkout, the receptionist didn't care or apologize. He said it might have been guests leaving at 4 am. Staff were unhelpful.

A very nice hotel in a great location, with parking available. Great value for money overall, and highly recommended!
