Baia Serena

We spent our time relaxing among the fig and olive trees, with birds in the branches and little lizards scurrying around. Our chalet had welcome shade from the hot sun, and although it was basic, it was spotless. Everyone we met was cheerful and friendly. The hillside setting is gorgeous, with breathtaking views across Sorrento, Vesuvius, and the coastline. Baia Serena sits high above the sea, so there are steps to most chalets and to the restaurant and bar. It would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The road and parking area are very tight, so a small car is best. Our Renault Clio managed fine. Mosquitoes were a nuisance, so bring bug spray and citronella candles. Giuseppe and Rosa worked hard to make our stay enjoyable and shared lots of useful local tips. We loved being there and would happily return.

The cabin is simple, with hard beds, but it has what you need. Breakfast was good and very affordable, and the host was extremely friendly. Baia Serena is perched among olive trees, with a stunning view and no road noise, just birds and boats. Our big car felt awkward there. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The evening views were beautiful. We often ate on the balcony, looking toward Capri and watching Sorrento's lights come on. We came with my wife to explore the area's history and Sorrento. Getting around takes some travel, and I don't feel confident driving on Italian roads since they're not for the faint-hearted. Joesph helped us with bus timetables and directions, and the trains run frequently.

We got around well using public transport, including a bus to Vico Equense and then a 20-minute train ride to Pompeii. Buses to Vico Equense run hourly, and there's also an hourly service to one of the nearby restaurants, though it sits at the top of a steep hill in Monteciarro. One of the two restaurants within walking distance is excellent. This is a small family-run hotel made up of separate bungalows on a steep hillside, with wonderful views of Meta, Sorrento, Corsica, Vesuvius, and Naples. The service was friendly, and the food was very good. Breakfast is included, while dinner costs extra and needs to be arranged with the proprietor. There's a small pool with bar service and a game room. The rooms are fairly basic, with lovely tile floors, and internet is included and very good. Most guests seem to have a car, but we managed without one.
