Il Melograno in Costa d'Amalfi

Il Melograno made for a memorable, romantic break, and we felt relaxed and looked after throughout. The rooms are charmingly decorated, the coast views are gorgeous, and Vietri sul Mare is reachable by a short bus ride or a pleasant walk downhill. The walk back up is a big one. A few practical details: the steps up to the property are steep, though the team can help with luggage if arranged. The old doors can be noisy. The hot tub needs refilling every day and has no active heating, so it’s more like a cool plunge. The rooms felt more like hotel rooms than apartments, which we found made the place better for couples than families. What really stood out was the staff. They were warm and ready to help, and offered home-cooked local lunch or dinner options each day. They doted on our young son, arranged an early check-in and late check-out when we weren’t feeling well, and even picked up nappies when the local pharmacy was closed. They also gave us useful local advice and replied quickly to questions. We sometimes had translation trouble in conversation, though that was down to our lack of Italian. We enjoyed visiting the nearby vineyard, and there’s a small shop and pharmacy close by. Between the setting, atmosphere, and thoughtful hospitality, we’d wholeheartedly recommend Il Melograno for an authentic, romantic Amalfi Coast stay.

The owners’ warmth and willingness to help are what make this place so special. The views are incredible, the rooms are clean and well equipped, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is lovely. Parking is off-site and costs extra, despite what booking.com says. Still, that shouldn’t put you off. There are good reasons this place gets five-star ratings. You really need to experience the hospitality in person to understand it.

The town is peaceful and scenic, with lovely beaches nearby and Salerno close at hand. It’s a great base for exploring the Amalfi Coast without heavy crowds or tourist traps. We’ve stayed here several times, and every visit has topped the last. The rooms are consistently clean and well kept, and the view is one of the best parts. Carmen is thoughtful and dedicated, and her homemade cooking is delicious. Highly recommended for a relaxed, authentic stay.

We really enjoyed our stay, especially the views from the garden sun loungers and the breakfast terrace. The owner and staff were lovely and friendly. It’s a modern, luxurious apartment with a Jacuzzi, tucked into a quiet area above Vietri. You wouldn’t expect rooms like these in an old, authentic house. We chose the airport shuttle from Salerno instead of renting a car, which worked well given the driving and parking situation along the Amalfi Coast.
