The countryside is gorgeous, and Martina will happily take you hiking when she has time. I've stayed here many times and always feel wonderful. Roberto, Mara, and Martina make it feel like visiting friends. Their cooking classes are a lot of fun and teach you about the Italian and Tuscan way of thinking about and preparing food.

Even nearly 20 years later, Rachael and I still dream about Albergo La Baita and Corfino. It was such a lovely, affordable stay, with warm hosts who made us feel like family. Roberto was also great to talk with. The town and mountains nearby are a joy, with plenty of hikes and places to drive to. We stayed at the end of a two-week trip through Firenze, Sienna, and Roma, during a heat wave, perhaps in 2003. We bought chestnut-flour bread, two cheeses, two meats, basil, tomato, cucumber, and chocolate at a little shop, then ate our picnic under a big tree in the piazza by the church, looking out over the valley. The old woman at the shop spoke Italian while we got by in poor Spanish, and she told us to find a large tree because it was so hot. The church steps were covered in flowers, maybe from a recent wedding, and the village makes for a nice little walk. Just lovely, especially the kind interactions. Ciao Roberto.

There are lots of hikes and a national park right nearby. The hotel is beautiful and fully renovated in an authentic style, and the restaurant serves delicious food.
