We booked two double rooms at hotel Sonnenheim seven weeks before arriving. At check-in, a woman said there’d been a booking problem and that she’d arranged two rooms at another place, supposedly next door. She asked us to pay in full first and said she had already covered the extra cost. In fact, the other guesthouse was 4 km from the hotel and another 4 km from Sterzing. It was a vintage guesthouse, nothing like what we’d booked. We made our disappointment clear, but were offered no alternative or help resolving it. The woman didn’t seem willing to sort it out. We took the refund and had to find somewhere else on the spot. A very unpleasant experience with Sonnenheim. Don’t book here if you expect to get what you reserved.

The room was clean and nice, and the service had a charming feel. We had good schnitzel and the wine was okay. We’d chosen a hotel on an app while travelling from Italy to Sweden, expecting to walk downhill to the village for dinner. The narrow, steep road up turned out not to be a big deal, and we soon decided there was no need to cross the river to find water. A charming young couple run the place, which looked very traditional. I’ve saved it as a bookmark for future trips.

The climb is steep, but the views are amazing and the hotel isn’t far from the town center. They kindly let us keep our e-bikes in the garage during our cycle trip across Europe. Breakfast was good, the Cappuccini were lovely, and the service was very good. It was one of the nicest hotels on our trip. Our room had a flat-screen TV, a hairdryer, and shower gel and soap in fancy bottles.

The view from our room was magnificent, and breakfast was delicious. We arrived at midnight on our road trip from Berlin to Brindisi, and the staff were kind and helpful. No one was at reception, but they’d left clear directions for us. If I visit Vipiteno again, I’d choose this hotel.

The location and view were beautiful, the staff friendly, and the food delicious. I just wish I’d booked a longer stay. Such a great experience, highly recommend.
