The pool was a real bonus, set apart in a lovely garden, with well-kept salt water. We loved our stay at the castle, with its peaceful atmosphere and great room. It sits right at the top by the main plaza, so don’t trust the address or navigation, just keep driving uphill. The roads are narrow but even a large car can get through, and parking right before the castle was easy. The staff were incredibly friendly and gave us loads of recommendations. We also ate at the restaurant and would recommend it. The cook came over and even made us a special dish. The parmigiana and all the desserts were delicious. We’ll be back!

The castle’s charm made the little flaws easy to overlook, and we had a great time feeling like we were in a Shakespeare play. It was clean, though not spotless, and the castle decor looked a bit worn, which can happen after hundreds of years. At 100 euros a night, the price felt fair for the quality. The hallway lights run on a timer, and the room air conditioning was okay but not perfect. The pool is a five-minute walk down the hill, with a small fridge there where you can buy drinks. Food was good and well priced. We stayed one night and had fun. The road up is small and poorly marked, and the little town is very quiet. Check-in was pleasant, and both the hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and good.

The owners and staff made us feel very welcome. This beautiful historic castle has an amazing view over wonderful countryside, yet is only 90 minutes from Rome. A great place for a holiday surrounded by nature and history, with superb food and wine. Highly recommended!

We came across a wonderful hidden gem in Lazio. The village has so much charm, the view is lovely, and the castle is magnificent. Our room was divine! Thank you for such a warm welcome. We’ll come back for a full vacation!

The private garden and pool are beautiful, though it’s a bit of a walk downhill from the castle. Roccalvecce is tiny and partly abandoned, so it’s fun to explore but you’ll need to travel for restaurants and things to do. By car, popular places like Bolsena and Bagnoregio are easy to reach, and you can ask to dine at the castle if you’d rather stay in. This was a wonderful stay in a hilltop castle. It’s a small place run by the castle’s owners, so it doesn’t offer all the services of a luxury chain hotel. Think bed and breakfast, except you’re staying in their palazzo castle, which has been in the family for hundreds and hundreds of years.
