The restaurant and breakfast were a real highlight. Dinner has traditional Italian dishes, and breakfast was especially good compared with other Italian hotels. The à la carte prices seemed reasonable, too. The hotel is a gem, even though it’s outside the old city centre, about a ten-minute walk to the stairs leading up into Volterra. The rooms are big and stylish, with very comfortable beds, plus a kettle and fridge. The bathroom is spacious, and everything felt modern and clean. There’s also a cozy inner patio where you can sit and relax, or let the kids run around and play. I’d love to come back on our next trip to Tuscany. Highly recommend it!

The room looked nice, but bugs got in through the broken mosquito screens. The AC was broken too, and a loud generator next door kept starting up at intervals. I got no sleep, and it made for a miserable night.

The former convent atmosphere still comes through, even though the rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. Breakfast is a good buffet served in the old cloister. It’s a very cool hotel, though getting to central Volterra takes a 15-20 minute walk.

I’d been looking forward to staying in an old monastery, so the place was a bit of a letdown. The housekeeping staff worked hard, but the courtyard was untidy and the landscaping and outdoor seating seemed to get little attention. The restaurant wasn’t very good, and breakfast was exactly the same every day.
