About this property

The hotel is situated in Port Antonio, a private estate in an unspoilt part of the north east coast of Jamaica, far from the hustle and bustle of Ocho Rios, in a region graced with beaches, waterfalls and the tropical scenery on the island. It has a serene 45-acre private estate that is considered a true Jamaican hideaway, with a fresh water stream and its own sheltered white sand beach. This historical, family-owned resort is ideally suited for group events and gatherings, offering an open patio, which seats 60 persons in a relaxed setting, an inside seminar room with audiovisual equipment which seats 25 to 40 guests and many outside covered areas for breakout groups or smaller gatherings. Further facilities at this hotel include a bar, restaurant, hotel safe, Internet access and a laundry service. There are 14 guest rooms on offer. The hotel offers convenient rooms.

The beach was dirty and the manager was disrespectful. This was the worst experience I’ve had in Jamaica. Don’t come here, go to BLUE HOLE, just 3 minutes away. It’s much nicer, with very good service. The front desk at FRENCHMAN’S COVE needs to learn to treat people and tourists with respect.

There wasn’t anything special about this beach compared with nicer, cheaper ones, and the service and location left a poor impression. We followed the GPS here by mistake, and security at the gate waved us in before telling us the charge was $2,700 per person. We paid $5,500, then realized after entering that this wasn’t the beach we meant to visit. When we asked management for a refund because of the mistake, she refused. We even found two people who were willing to buy our tickets, but management said she couldn’t let them because she’d be losing money. I understand there’s a policy, but it felt like money mattered more than helping someone who’d made an honest mistake. I wouldn’t recommend it. If I could give it a negative star, I would.

This was my fourth stay, and I’ll be back next time too. I especially like the design of the rooms and junior suites, and the villas have balconies with sea views. The facilities are basic, which suits a stay focused on the beach. I was sorry to find that breakfast is no longer served in the Great House. The buildings date from the 1960s, which gives the place charm, and the operators seem to do their best to maintain them with a skeleton crew. Go expecting somewhere calm and beautiful, rather than the facilities of a 5-star resort. The staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. They even sent me a WhatsApp message during our stay to check on something. Our room area was completely quiet, we slept really well, and it was lovely to unwind there in the evenings. I’ll 100% return.

The food was good, and since it was my first time visiting Jamaica, the experience was nice overall. I was surprised the entrance cost $2,700 in Jamaican money. Chairs cost $300 each, or you can sit on the sand, which was fine with me.
