The Castle Star

I'm a solo female traveler and always felt safe here. The hosts, Taner and Muhammad, were so welcoming, friendly, warm, helpful, and loving, sorry if I've got the spelling wrong. The rooms and bunk beds were just right. From my room I had an amazing view of the city and the Roman amphitheater, and from the balcony you could also see the citadel. It's easy to walk downtown from this perfect location, and there's a nearby restaurant with delicious breakfast.

The view from the girls’ room is hard to beat, and the room itself is roomy, with huge windows over the city and plenty of places to store or hang your things. I felt safe staying here as a woman, and the shared bathroom was always clean. The host is so welcoming and easy to talk to, and really goes out of his way for guests. The hostel is clean and sits right in the heart of Old city Amman, within walking distance of tasty, affordable restaurants and nightlife. Those are the reasons I’d come back, despite a few drawbacks. There’s no lock or key access for shared rooms, and no safes, so someone could enter while you’re out. You can lock a storage cabinet in the room, though, and there are cameras in the hallways. Renovation work is underway, with noise through the day. I still managed a midday nap, but sleeping late can be tough. The kitchen is small, too, and when a big group was there, the single burner was in constant use. I prefer to cook, but there are loads of restaurants nearby, so I didn’t go hungry. I’d still recommend the place and stay again.

The hostel is right beside the citadel, and for the price it’s a very good option. The admin was helpful and dealt with the cold-water problem right away. You can rent towels for 1 jd, and they also offer tours and sell Dead Sea products at reception. The room felt too cramped for eight people, with what seemed like not enough air. The WiFi also sometimes drops out or gets weak.

The terrace view was incredible, and the rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. Everyone was friendly, and Mohammed made me feel especially welcome. He arranged a taxi for my activities and printed some documents I really needed. I had such a lovely stay at the Castle Star Hotel that I’ve already recommended it to several friends. I’ll stay here again when I return to Amman. Thanks again for everything ✨
