Petra Cottage

It’s a large place in a quiet, pleasant area, but you need a car. There’s nothing nearby. It might have been good if it were cleaner. The bathroom was especially dirty, and the hot water couldn’t be used because it was either boiling or freezing. The owner charged me more than my reservation stated and refused to refund the difference. That was a bad attitude.

We liked the quiet, lonely setting, though it could feel a little scary at night when everything around is dark. You’ll need your own car. The owners were nice and offered to bring firewood. The main room is pleasant but bare and has almost no windows. We slept on the floor, with plenty of mattresses and blankets. There’s a small kitchen with a gas stove and lots of cooking gear. A few things could be fixed easily: the fridge didn’t work, there were no working lights in the kitchen or bathroom, and the kitchen hadn’t really been cleaned. There was only cold water, so we heated some on the stove for a warm bucket shower. Apart from that, it’s a nice place.

The owner arranged a Bedouin barbecue, which we especially enjoyed. Evenings on the terrace in the dark were lovely too, along with the rough landscape, the quiet, and the simple way of living. It felt very authentic. There’s no electricity, so bring a power bank.

A real desert house, quiet but really hot inside during summer.
