Good value for money, with a useful breakfast bag if you’re heading out early. The location is convenient, about a 12-minute drive from Petra and away from busy tourist Wadi Musa. The owner is nice and speaks excellent English. On arrival, no one was there, so reception was confusing. The outside of the hostel was messy and unclear, with nowhere to sit outdoors. Internet was very variable. The shower was good, though the bathroom was noisy. The pillow was very hard, and there weren’t enough blankets for winter.

Mohamed is excellent with guests and deals with everyone very professionally. The rooms are clean, it’s quiet with no disturbances, and the location is close to Petra.

The house has just three rooms, two of them for two people, so it never feels crowded. Inside, everything was clean and thoughtfully prepared: you can cook in the kitchen, make tea or coffee, keep food in the fridge, and there’s a hot shower without needing to switch on a boiler. Towels are provided, which is rare here. In the morning, breakfast appears in a craft paper box like magic. The homey interior has hundreds of funny notes and good wishes left on the entrance walls by travelers from different countries. The terrace and parking area look out over a spectacular rocky valley, dropping 300 m. There are hikes uphill to the peak or downhill to Bedouin camps with sheep and goats. The hostel is at the top of the mountain in Taibeh town, about a 5-minute drive from Wadi Musa and Petra museum. Taibeh and Um Sayhoun are quiet, with friendly, smiley locals happy to help or give advice, and they charge fair local prices. That felt very different from tourist-oriented WM, where I found it hard to get coffee, restaurants, or groceries without being overcharged, and the hostels and hotels were very crowded. Mohammed, our host, is kind, generous, and friendly. Whether you stay one night or a week, he tries to make the experience relaxing and memorable. Pick this place if you’re going to Petra or simply want to be near the mountains for hiking!
