Fudo Onsen Hanabishi

Beautiful setting, nice rooms, and really good food.

The baths were just the right temperature, with soft, slippery-feeling water, so we ended up staying in for ages. The outdoor bath is open until 11 pm, and the indoor one stays open until 9 the next morning, which was great. The building is old, but parts have been renovated and the place was thoroughly cleaned. It felt clean and comfortable to stay in. We stayed overnight on February 28th. Every robatayaki dish was delicious. The meal was mostly vegetables, but the ingredients and flavors were lovely. Our whole family was happy with the inn, and the staff were all so pleasant. Thanks for taking care of us.

Dinner was a treat, especially the hearth-grilled dishes, wild boar hotpot, and horse sashimi. The hot springs were great too. It’s a quiet, relaxing place to get away from everything. I wouldn’t call it clean by any stretch, but it was well-kept and comfortable. The price is so reasonable it almost makes you wonder. I’d like to come back when I need to unwind.

I’ve visited around 1,000 hot springs, and this one seems incredibly unusual. Most rise from deep underground, but this water picks up elements from the earth on its way up. Still, when I tasted it, it seemed pure and free of impurities. The ingredient list had many components that couldn’t be detected, which makes this a really rare spring. Put simply, it feels like bathing in pure hot spring water. The pH of 10.0 is no joke. This is an easy-to-reach day-trip hot spring right by the road. The water flows straight from the source. The upper section is the same as the source, while the lower section is heated and a little warmer. It’s disinfected with tablets for safety, but I still enjoyed the unique water. I was disappointed I couldn’t try the cold mineral bath. Maybe it’s only available in summer? I visited on November 18th and it wasn’t open. I’ll come again if I get the chance. Thanks for having me.
