About this property

Set in the Higashiyama Onsen area, Irorinoyado Ashina is a traditional 4-star ryokan housed in a relocated 120-year-old folk house. The experience centres around a traditional sunken hearth, known as an *irori*, where guests gather for meals. The ryokan offers local Kaiseki cuisine, featuring ingredients sourced from area farmers and the property's own vegetable field. Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, which use free-flowing natural spring water and can be reserved for private use. Accommodation consists of Japanese-style rooms with tatami flooring, air conditioning, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Select rooms offer mountain views. The property provides free on-site parking and is located 5. 3 km from Aizuwakamatsu Station.

I was there for just one night with dinner, and afterward my boyfriend proposed to me. I'll remember the place forever. The room was huge and traditional, and the rustic onsen was soothing. The women working there don't really speak English, but they tried their best to help. Japanese hospitality at its best. Thank you.

The meal at Ashina was the highlight of our steam locomotive trip. My daughter and I were staying near Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, and after GPT chat recommended Ashina when I looked for local dinner specialties, I called to book. Even that first conversation felt warm and welcoming. We took the circular bus as far as it went, then walked about 10 minutes to Ashina, following the sound of the river and stopping to enjoy a foot bath. The food around the hearth was far beyond what I expected. The trout was the best I've ever had, and the horse sashimi, seared beef, and local chicken grilled on a jade plate were all delicious. Mushrooms and vegetables came in a nicely judged order, too. We chose the sake tasting course, picked three kinds from the menu, then added a favorite. The sake was lovely, and the person cooking for us made a great impression. After dinner, which left us very satisfied, we relaxed in the private open-air bath. Getting a taxi back on a weekend was difficult, but Ashina-san kindly drove me to the hotel despite being busy. I really appreciated it. I'd like to stay at Ashina-san's again in another season. The breakfast looks good as well.
