APA Hotel Ueno Okachimachi Ekimae Minami

We arrived at 10:00 PM after 14 hours of international travel with our 2-year-old and 6-month-old, expecting to enter the room we’d paid for in full. Instead, the hotel refused us, saying we’d exceeded occupancy because of our infant. We’d booked according to its stated terms and conditions, which clearly say children of this age stay free of charge, as shown in the picture. Staff still wouldn’t honor the booking and told us the hotel was full and we’d have to find somewhere else. For the first 10 minutes, they offered no real explanation, apology, or attempt to fix the situation. Blaming the booking website for an “error” doesn’t excuse it. The hotel sets its occupancy rules and gives that information to booking platforms. If something didn’t match, the hotel should correct it instead of penalizing paying guests at arrival. Turning away a prepaid family with two sleeping babies late at night showed no professionalism, accountability, or basic human decency. It was disgraceful, not just poor service. We’ll never stay with APA again, and I’d strongly warn families to avoid this hotel if they don’t want to risk being stranded at night despite a confirmed booking.

The rooms are small, as expected, but have everything you need, and the amenities are spot on. The staff were superb. You can hear the trains passing because the hotel is a little too close to the tracks, but I found it tolerable. A great experience overall.

There’s a little restaurant downstairs, plenty of amenities in the room, and I couldn’t hear the neighbors. The price was good, so the really small rooms were manageable, which we knew about already. Excellent location too. I’d definitely stay here again.

The rooms are small but comfortable. The city is full of life, and the location is excellent, near Okachimachi Station, Ameya Yokochō, Ueno Park, and Akihabara.
