Hotel Tamai

The room had two North American double beds, a small fridge, and a kettle, and the air conditioning worked well. I picked up instant coffee and powdered creamer from the complimentary amenities stand at reception. The mountain or ocean views from the 11th floor were good, and the restaurant looked clean. The room itself didn’t smell off, but there were quite a few maintenance and cleanliness issues: stained walls, peeling plywood on the doors, curling wallpaper, and carpet that looked worn and dirty. There was mold at the bathroom counter and wall corner, and the floor around the toilet looked dirty too. The ceiling had water damage and was brownish, perhaps because the room had once been used for smoking. I tried the morning buffet. It was fair, with the usual Japanese breakfast plus small white fish, natto, and boiled eggs. The automated coffee machine’s cafe au lait, mocha, and other drinks were adequate. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, along with a Family Mart, Aki Train station, and a well-stocked store selling inexpensive bentos, snacks, and other goods.
