Hotel Sunroad

For 6,000 yen a night, it was about what I expected. The ceiling in my room was very high, which felt nice, but the bed was so hard I struggled to get up. The door lock stuck, too. The place is clearly making an effort to be a proper hotel in Amakusa, and I’d give it five stars for that. The facilities are old, though most single and double rooms have been nicely renovated. Some twin rooms still haven’t been updated. My room had no smell at all, but the older twin rooms might have issues because of their age.

The hotel has a modern, polished feel and is very well designed. There’s a convenience store right next door, and the airport bus stop is directly outside. Service was fine, about what you’d expect from a business hotel. The TV looked tiny in the large room. I’d also seen other guests mention a smell, but there wasn’t any issue with that in my room.

Amakusa really is in the middle of nowhere, lol, but it was easy for us to reach by bicycle. The hotel itself was nice and quiet, with clean, roomy rooms at a cheap price. Breakfast is available, and there’s a convenience store next door. Hard to ask for more in such a good spot.

The staff are friendly, and the rooms are roomy and convenient. There’s also a small restaurant on the ground floor. It’s a little outside the city, though close to both the shopping mall and Hondo-Bus Center.
