November 8, 2023 I booked this for the night before flying home. The exterior gives one impression, but the inside has been renovated very nicely. There weren’t any other guests while I was there, so I couldn’t really judge what the rooms are like when occupied, and that’s why I gave the room four stars. The walk to downtown is a little long, though food is easy enough to find, with convenience stores, supermarkets, and bento shops all within a 10-minute walk.

It feels a lot like staying at a friend’s place, but you can lock your own room and keep your privacy. The shared area has a fridge, water heater, and microwave, and the shower, washing machine, and Wi-Fi are all free. The church is nearby, so it’s easy to locate. Look for the red drum sign. For the price, it’s amazing.

This was a little guesthouse that also has a dagashi shop. It’s about 100m down a side street from the main road through town. The husband and wife who run it are so kind, thoughtful, and funny, and they really looked after us. It felt genuinely comfortable. The price was a good deal, too. Both the room and toilet were clean, and I had a very comfortable stay. I’d definitely use this place again.

The inside is clean, even though the building itself is old and creaks here and there. The disposable toothbrushes and towels were really useful, and the towels are washed after every use. Having a washing machine helped a lot for a multi-day stay. There’s no dryer, though, so you’ll need to air-dry clothes in your room with a fan or something similar.
