Hotel West Court Amami

The large public bath was one of the things I liked when I stayed here some time ago. I tried the sauna as well. It ran a little warm, so I could stay in for a while. It might not suit someone looking for a really sweaty session, but it was relaxing and helped with travel fatigue. Hotel West Court Amami II also stood out for its central location. It was easy to get around for meals, shopping and transport, and worked well for sightseeing or business. Breakfast wasn't flashy, just comforting and satisfying. I especially enjoyed the Amami-style chicken rice, a lovely way to taste local flavors before leaving. Convenient and reliable as a base in Amami.

For a business single, the room is a great size. The TV is arranged so it doesn't eat into the desk, and the chair rolls around easily. There's plenty of light, and the entry is level, which feels comfortable even though the sink, toilet and bath aren't separate. I liked the outlet and dimmer beside the bed, built into the small-item tray. The location is excellent too. The loungewear is a gown, and you're not allowed to wear it outside the bath area. I would've preferred a samue (workwear). There's so much packed into the room that I could keep writing.

I was here in early January 2026. It's a fairly new-looking business hotel with clean, modern facilities, near central Naze in Amami City. Check-in and checkout were smooth at the machines. There are several parking spaces in the building, with overflow in a mechanical lot about a 1-2 minute walk away. My room faced the mountains. It was quiet and undisturbed, although I could hear quite a bit from neighboring rooms and outside. I added breakfast for 1,320 yen since I thought few restaurants would be open at the start of the year. There was a good range of Japanese and Western choices for a business hotel, and I was very satisfied. They serve Amami Oshima's chicken rice too. The hot dishes, though, were cold, which was a shame. The spacious public bath had just a few guests, with a limit of 1-3 people. The sauna fit around 5-6 and had a TV. There weren't sauna mats, only towels on the seats, but it wasn't very hot, so that was fine. The cold bath was properly chilled, and four chairs were provided for resting. None reclined, unfortunately, but there was still enough space. A women's sports club from a certain lingerie manufacturer seemed to be using the sauna for a training camp, though it never got especially busy and we had a comfortable time.

The hygiene is top-notch, and it’s incredibly clean. I’ve never seen a hotel provide toothbrushes better than the ones sold in stores. At this level, why is it so inexpensive? It’s a shame it isn’t suitable for Amami.
