Aomori Iroha Ryokan

This family-run inn is very convenient and reasonably priced, and the woman who runs it is lovely and knows the area well. She can offer good recommendations. My room was clean and had the expected amenities, including towels, nightwear, a fridge, and a tea set with snacks. The walls and doors are a bit thin, so inconsiderate neighbors could be a problem, but I had no issues during my week there. There's just one shower room on the bottom floor, though there's a sento not far away as another option. A great stay for solo travelers or couples on a budget.

I felt at home here, which helped when I was starting to feel homesick as a solo traveler. Everything was clean and convenient, and the lady running the inn was super kind. I stayed in September of 2024, and it's a stone's throw from Aomori station. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely return.

The only possible snag is the single shower, which you can't use between 9:30-3:30pm. Otherwise, it's a nice local place, a three-minute walk from the train station. The rooms are traditional, with matcha and chocolate provided each day, plus free laundry. A very nice older lady runs the place. I wish her well.

For my first ryokan stay, this was a lovely little experience. I was traveling solo for a weekend in Aomori, and the room felt cozy and surprisingly warm in winter. The toilet and showers are shared. It's close to the bus station, so close that I stumbled across it by accident, as well as to local attractions and some of the best meals I've had so far in Japan. They also have free tea and chocolates, which was nice.
