I was honored to stay in such a historic place, and it felt as if time had stopped in the Kan'ei era. Thank you for the work you do to maintain the house. The former Kimura Sake Brewery is about 400 years old and now includes the main accommodation building, Keyaki Keyaki Building, the French restaurant LE UN, an information center and a cafe. I stayed in Sakura Sakura Building 402, a separate building with a long doma earthen-floored entryway and tsubo-niwa. You pass through two gates to get into the room. I love that kind of layout, it felt special to me. Dinner at LE UN was in a grand, stylish room with a high ceiling. I especially liked the appetizer and buri, and the traditional Japanese breakfast left me full. The hotel is very close to Takeda staion, which made getting there easy. The main entrance seemed to be under renovation, though, and it took me a while to find the way to the front desk to check in.

A lovely little town to wander around, and this beautiful hotel is right in the middle of nowhere. The staff were so welcoming, and breakfast was just right. I’d highly recommend a stop here away from Japan’s big cities.

Just a two-minute walk from the station, so it worked well for me arriving by public transport. The hotel is a former sake brewery, now turned into a stylish place with a restaurant serving fusion dinner made with local ingredients. The staff were friendly and helpful. I loved it!

We had a comfortable stay, and there were plenty of complimentary drinks in both the room and lounge. The service felt warm and kind, and the setting inside and out was excellent. Breakfast was delicious too. A marvellous experience!

I was looking for somewhere in the Japanese countryside to unwind, and after finding a great Rakuten Travel deal, I switched from a hostel down the street to Takeda Castle Town Hotel. It turned out to be one of the nicest places I’ve stayed on all my travels, and just what I needed. The place is luxurious and fancy, and I’m glad I spent a little more. My room was in an old townhouse about half a block from the main hotel. Three rooms had been created by subdividing it. I hadn’t expected that setup, and was delighted. I had a little yard, a lovely bathroom with a fancy wooden bath, a bedroom with two large beds, and two sitting rooms that could also be spare sleeping areas. The main bedroom had once been a kids’ room, and seeing stickers from the 60s or 70s still on the wall was wonderful. The renovation was done with care, but all the new doorways seemed made for someone under six feet. I’m taller and hit my head more than once. There was a small fridge stocked with free drinks in the room. More were available in the lounge by the restaurant, including lots of kinds of sake, though no snacks. The wifi was good, and I spent my evenings camped out there. It was off season, so I was the only one. The hotel also has an onside onsen, small but comfortable and lovely to soak in. The main hotel is in an old sake distillery, which also houses the tourist info office. The staff were incredibly nice and catered to visitors. My offer included one meal a day at the restaurant. They asked what I liked and what I couldn’t eat, and every meal was among the best breakfasts I’ve had. The tourist info office is small, with old-time candy, local gifts and displays about the castle above.
