May isn’t a popular season, so I had a huge, empty space all to myself, and the price was really cheap for a solo trip. The host was very nice and accommodating. The building used to be a furniture warehouse and is over 100 years old. The details of the traditional Japanese architecture are beautifully done. The lounge and dining area are great, and the kitchen and bathtub are spacious and well equipped. If you want a reasonably priced stay in a house with real character, you won’t be disappointed.

The owner was really nice about me showing up spontaneously without a booking. The guesthouse seemed freshly renovated, so everything was new and super clean, while keeping the architectural charm of an older Japanese inn. My dorm room had tatami floors and a futon. It was a cold day, so I got extra blankets and a detailed introduction to the heating system. There’s a huge shared kitchen and a separate dining area, both free to use and very comfortable. Hot baths are available from 18:00-22:00, and the shower room is modern too. The owner took time to explain where I could find different kinds of food and when shops close. The next morning, he showed me how to get to the Takeda castle ruins. They were also happy to hold my luggage for the day. This was one of my favorite places to stay, and I definitely recommend it!

The ryokan is clean and pretty, and I had a good night’s rest. It’s right next to Takeda Station, which is a great location. Masa-san can arrange a bus to Ritsuunkyo for 1700 yen per person, including the Ritsuunkyo ticket. We could also leave our luggage there temporarily after checkout. A few things to know: rooms can’t be locked, soundproofing isn’t great, the bathroom is communal, and the nearest convenience store is 1 km away. 😃

Most rooms have a great view of the castle ruins at night. The accommodations are excellent, with both Western and Japanese-style rooms, and the staff are incredibly kind and helpful.

It’s quiet and cozy, with food amenities for the price. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and arranged a taxi early in the morning for my hike to see the Takeda castle ruins. It’s a short walk to the train station and several local attractions.
