Hotel Kanichi

Five private kashikiri hot springs is incredibly generous. And in Atami, where so many places require double occupancy, a ryokan offering a reasonable discount for a solo guest earns five stars from me 👍

The rooftop onsens were my favorite part. You get unlimited time for your booked turn, which is unusual compared with other ryokan. I ended up extending my stay over Golden Week and tried two types of room. The sea-view room is amazing for a family or a group of friends. I’d booked at the last minute as a solo traveler and was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable price, especially compared with hotels in Hakone. The room looked a little dated, but it was well cleaned and had what a traveler needs. The hotel is beside a big supermarket and the main streets.

We had a fun, relaxing stay in this retro hotel. It’s walkable to both the shopping arcade and the beach, and while the building is older, it was extremely clean. The rooms felt like apartments and were bigger than we expected. The staff were so friendly, and even hurried down to return money I’d left in the room. They called us a taxi and waved goodbye too.

The dinner was delicious, especially the wagyu and kinmedai, and the staff member who looked after us was professional and warm. I also loved the private onsen choices on the top floor, with five options there, plus a public bath on B1. The room was clean, tidy, and spacious. When I arrived in the rain, the counter staff kindly gave me a towel to dry my hair and face, explained the facilities and rules, and provided a yukata. The hotel is near Atami Ginza tori and about a 10-minute walk from Atami Station. I had a great stay. Thank you Kanichi!
