KOTOBUKIAN

It was a beautiful home, and the hosts were incredibly kind. They welcomed us with a nice drink and a delicious piece of cake, and gave us excellent recommendations for things to do and eat in Awaji. Thank you so much!

The place is about a 10-minute walk from one of Tadao Ando's art installations. It's somewhat far from the nearest bus stop, which is on a highway, but still only around a 10-minute walk away. The house was renovated from a thatched cottage and is now mostly made of wood, with a Japanese aesthetic. It has self-service laundry, which is a plus, and an optional breakfast.

This place has no flexibility if a guest arrives late. I was on a road trip to Awaji, and because of some things that happened, I was going to arrive after check-in time. I got a phone call asking if I was still planning to come. I said yes and that I was on my way, but then they called again to say the owners were an elderly couple who couldn't stay up late. I was going to arrive around 22:00 or 22:30, not midnight! Around 21:00, they told me I couldn't stay. They didn't refund me, and I had to find somewhere else at that hour! That's not hospitality! Where in the world is there no option for someone who might arrive late? At least charge a little extra. I hate this behavior. I was so tired when they told me over the phone that I couldn't stay, and then I had to find a new place. The owners were so selfish.

It's a lovely old house with incredible views. The host couple are very kind, and the breakfast they serve is delicious. I wish I could have stayed longer.
