The accommodations and atmosphere were both lovely, but what really stood out was how exceptionally well the staff treated us and the service they provided.

I came with a friend in July 2024 and stayed one night in a Japanese-style room. I’d never been to a traditional Japanese inn before and wanted to try one during my trip. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, and the air conditioning kept us comfortable through this very hot summer. Dinner and breakfast were traditional Japanese meals, very good value for the price, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. A shuttle picked us up at the JR station, where several staff members greeted us. Everyone was sweet and friendly. My friend and I speak almost no Japanese, but an English-speaking staff member kindly explained everything, and the rest of the team were just as welcoming. After checkout, they looked after our bags and arranged another shuttle to the JR station later that day. I’d recommend Haiya to anyone visiting Fukui Prefecture.

The baths were wonderful, and we also enjoyed having a personal Onsen in our room. This felt like a unique traditional Japanese experience, a welcome break from busy Tokyo, and I highly recommend it. The kindness of the people, the service, and the food are all reasons I’d love to return. I’d also encourage visitors to explore the region, which is now accessible by high-speed train.

It was my first time visiting an onsen, and I felt like Japanese royalty here. The manners, atmosphere, and food were all perfect. Even the head hostess spoke English and thanked us for coming. Thank you for such a lovely visit.
