Sky Tower Sweet 4 Beppu Resort Love Hotel

The room was spacious, with a big balcony overlooking the sea without anything blocking the view. There was a large ensuite jacuzzi that could fit two adults, plus complimentary snacks and drinks, including a few cans of beer, soda, and water. Breakfast came to the room at the time we chose, through a hole in the wall to preserve privacy. The hotel clearly prioritizes discretion, with check-in and checkout arranged so you don't have to meet anyone in person, and clear instructions for the different steps.

Room 902 was very comfortable, and all the facilities in it were good. We enjoyed the room, but the breakfast wasn't enough for one person, and the food didn't seem fresh.

I traveled a long way and booked over the phone, so I arrived expecting the price I'd seen online. Only afterward did I think the charge seemed odd and ask about it. They had charged me almost twice the listed amount. I was told check-in normally starts at 6 PM, but for a limited time over New Year's it had been moved to 8 PM, and the holiday rate applied too. Why not state something like, “The price will be XX% on XX days during the New Year's holiday”? Shouldn't that be explained when someone books by phone? Other hotels in this chain have always made it clear. They said the information was posted at the entrance, but it's easy to miss when you've already made a reservation over the phone. Even restaurants tell you if the usual price changes when you book by phone. I guess this place doesn't offer that kind of service, lol. I came with high hopes because it was part of a chain, and the trip turned out terribly. I'll never stay there again and wouldn't recommend it.

We chose this place because smoking was allowed, which we couldn't find at tourist hotels. My partner and I are middle-aged, but we gave it a try and were glad we did for all three nights. Every room has an ocean view, plenty of space, a large bathroom, and all the necessities, so we were very comfortable. It's about a 20-minute walk from the station, but the route along the bay is lovely. There's a shopping mall with a big supermarket on the way and a convenience store nearby. If you understand it's a motel, I'd recommend it. Apparently families with children stay here too, which makes sense.
