The sukiyaki course was delicious and so filling I couldn’t finish it. We ate in a private room, which made the meal easy with a small child. We were traveling with children and chose a spacious Japanese-style room. I booked one with a semi-open-air bath, with Beppu Tower right there, making for a unique view, lol. It was quiet and peaceful during our end-of-year stay, with few guests. Shopping was easy, with a 7-Eleven across the street and a drugstore downstairs. The staff were warm and welcoming, smiling at my child. My only complaint was the steps into the room and the bath inside it. I was carrying a newborn, though it wouldn’t be an issue for able-bodied adults. All the staff were very nice!

Both dinner and breakfast were very filling, so it’s probably best to check in hungry. I’d had iced coffee and seasonal cheesecake at Starbucks ☕😌✨ before arriving, and ended up completely stuffed 😆. You can choose between two meal times for both meals at check-in. I booked online on my day off after hearing the hot springs are good for skin and dinner included spiny lobster for the reopening celebration. The hotel has a stylish new interior with a touch of old-fashioned charm. I was impressed by the many foreign staff, who worked diligently despite their broken Japanese. The spring water felt smooth and is said to help with rough skin and osteoarthritis. The large public bath is on the 8th floor, with men and women alternating based on the time of day. I’ll come again, thank you ☺️.

The rooms are spacious and barrier-free, with wheelchair-accessible baths and toilets, so they seem well suited to parents or guests with mobility issues. They also said they plan to provide wheelchairs for the rooms in the future. Fukuoka has private companies that can arrange nurses and caregivers, so using their services should make for a comfortable stay. The hotel is right on a main street, with a convenience store across from it. Photos show the property during renovation, but the open-air rooms and other amenities have been beautifully redone. The place feels open and is full of Phalaenopsis orchids. Meals are kaiseki, including sukiyaki and shabu-shabu, with pufferfish served in winter.

The location is so convenient that not many guests seem to choose the dinner option. Most eat at an izakaya or somewhere else, but I’d suggest taking time for a relaxed meal at the inn. I booked the Wagyu beef sukiyaki kaiseki, and both the quality and portion were more than enough. The shabu-shabu is worth trying too. I stayed solo. The building has been renovated, and management has changed. I had a nice long chat with the landlady. I’d definitely recommend booking at least one night with two meals. Beppu seems to have more and more good inns lately, and this one is on my list to visit again 🙂

From the upper floors, you get a panoramic view of Beppu city and Beppu Bay. It’s right in the heart of town and beside Beppu Tower, the symbol of Beppu city, so you can really take in the tower’s impressive sight from this ryokan. The place has been fully renovated, and the interior is very clean and stylish!
